Welcome
I'm Melissa and I'm a primary school teacher with over 20 years' experience in education.
Are you looking for some support? I'd love to help. I provide one to one lessons for children aged 4-11 years. I work from a fully resourced classroom here in our home, with doors opening into the back garden - it is idyllic and I'd love you to be a part of it!
Please get in touch - give me a ring, message me, whatever's best. I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as I can.
I look forward to hearing from you.

"Melissa is a total professional! Both my children really struggled academically - she boosted their confidence in the classroom and their academic performance. Melissa is patient, kind and provides a fun learning environment."
Paul Slater
“Melissa immediately identified where our child needed to improve in maths and was very honest with us which we really appreciated. After around 18 months of weekly tuition, he improved massively and achieved the required SATs standards. Melissa provided fun and varied lessons with lots of encouragement and we are grateful for her help."
Nicky Ward
"My daughter has been going to Melissa for over a year now and I have seen such a change in her confidence with maths. From the initial lesson, Melissa has been very warm and encouraging which put her at ease from the outset. I can't recommend her enough."
About me
I have been a primary school teacher since graduating in 2002. In this time, I have worked in various schools as a teacher. However, after teaching hundreds of amazing children in classrooms, I now work solely as a tutor, helping children in my home.

Originally from Wiltshire, I now live in a small Northamptonshire village with my husband, three children and our dog. As well as teaching, I like to swim, walk in the woods, play Monopoly, bake cakes and spend time with my family.

I'm DBS checked, have up to date safeguarding training and am first aid trained.

“Melissa is a wonderful tutor. She has been helping my daughter over the past few years. She always enjoys the sessions and is excited to have extra learning. Melissa is calming and makes all the learning fun."
Mrs Burns
“My children love going to Melissa's. Melissa is kind, gentle and caring. She is fun and her classroom is HAPPY! I am AMAZED at the academic progress my children have both made. One to one tutoring with Melissa has been the best decision I could have ever made."
Claire Day
“Lessons are fun, focused on their specific interests and always looked forward to. We never have to encourage them to go. She challenges them in a way which ensures their learning is always enjoyable but means they are continually improving. For us, working with Melissa is of great benefit and absolutely worth it"
About tutoring
Lessons here are carefully planned so children can achieve success, build confidence, have fun and excel.
A close working relationship with the pupils I teach allows me to fully understand their learning style and from this I can ensure maximum impact from lessons. Each lesson I teach includes a warm up, a focus activity and a game at the end. We also have a drink and biscuit at half time. The lessons are very informal and children feel relaxed and comfortable here, which allows them to flourish. I work with children on the core subjects: English and Maths. Lessons take place during term time and the holidays.
Term time lessons are 1 hour in duration, but this can be extended to 1.5 or 2 hours in the holidays. All resources are provided so children don’t need to bring anything to the lessons, though they are welcome to if they would prefer this.
I can help children prepare for Year 6 SATs, entrance into independent schools and NSB and NSG.

"Melissa has been so wonderful. She is so attentive and supportive to my son. As a parent, that's what you hope to find in a tutor - someone who is in tune with your child's educational abilities and makes learning fun."
Jodee Fairclough
“Melissa has been an incredible support for my child, transforming their struggle with English and handwriting into new-found confidence. Her personalised approach, patience and genuine care have improved schoolwork but more importantly has changed my child's attitude to learning. When your child is genuinely happy with their trickiest subject and finds lessons fun, you know you've found the right person."
Tammy Davies
“Melissa has been instrumental in helping my son's confidence flourish. She is a driving force for good in the lives of the young people she tutors. If anyone is pondering if her tutoring is the way to go, I can categorically say that it is a 5 star experience."
